BP Naperville Complex
Naperville, IL
Ventilation Improvement Program (VIP)
The VIP project required design, fabrication, and
installation of a new HVAC system consisting of laboratory hood
exhaust, make-up air and conditioned supply air ductwork. The installation
utilized the latest in DDC and pneumatic controls as well as upgrading
preheat, reheat, and chilled water piping and air filtration. 120,000
square feet of laboratory space was installed. Laboratory space
installation included bench top and low boy hoods controlled by
air valves, linked to roof mounted strobic fans which are controlled
by variable frequency drives. The new ductwork was fabricated out
of a corrosive resistant polyvinyl material. Each lab was scheduled
for a utility shutdown, demolished, and reconstructed to meet the
client’s schedule.
In addition to the laboratory space, another 60,000
square feet of office space was renovated. This required the complete
removal and replacement of the ductwork, piping, and controls. Each
zone was scheduled to install the new system so that business continued
uninterrupted. The final step in the VIP project included the complete
refurbishment of a 15,000 square feet mechanical room that housed
14 air handlers. Hayward Company replaced pre-heat and chilled
water coils, roll-a-mat prefilters, in-line fans, air diverters,
and drain pans. The existing low pressure duct was cleaned, sealed,
and reinforced to handle the new medium pressure fans.
Hayward completed all work within the strict
time constraints and while the building was still occupied and fully
functioning. We finished the project safely and on schedule.
