S-4 Upgrade
The S-4 air handling unit supplied air to core areas
located on five floors of the Medical Center. Installed in 1977,
the hospital asked Hayward to rehab and modernize the unit. New
steam and chilled water coils were installed along with custom fabricated
stainless steel drain pans. The removal and installation of the
new coils required the removal of part of the existing housing.
New panels were fabricated in Hayward’s shop and installed.
RBH custom fabricated and installed air diverters up stream of the
new chilled water coil to achieve the desired air velocity reading.
We also fabricated and installed custom moisture eliminators of
Hayward’s own design downstream of the coil to catch the moisture
carry over. The old roll-a-mat filters were replaced with a bank
of 2’x2’ throw away filters in custom built frames.
All pneumatic dampers were replaced with modern dampers which are
controlled by a new combination of pneumatic and digital control
system.
Upon completion of this complex and intricate project,
University of Illinois honored Hayward with the Ventilation Contractor
of Year Award. This award recognizes our ability, quality, and safe
work habits over the course of the project. Hayward is very proud
and honored to be recognized with the University’s award.
